I have just sent you off a wire to tell you that Mr Hassall the owner of the Bull Mastiff will hand you over the dog tomorrow afternoon & will give you a collar and chain. His address is 64 Elstow Rd, Bedford. I went and saw the dog this morning and was very favourably impressed by it. It seemed friendly and there were several children about. The man I sent to inspect it is a vet's assistant. He examined it well & said it was very sound all round and a great bargain at £10. He put weight on its back and it did not seem to mind. You should do this gradually, fastening it so that it cannot throw it off, & it will soon get used to that and will soon carry you. I don't suppose the Hassalls have tried training it except as a guard. I am so glad you are pleased about it. I forgot to ask about what food it had been having but you can do that tomorrow. I am glad you are pleased and it is a great pleasure to me to give it to you. I feel sure you will get great pleasure out of t. I am glad you can get horse meat. I much look forward to your next visit here. About the time you suggest will suit me. I am engaged on the 18th but am pretty free after that so you had better suggest the day. I was at school at Brighton and I think it a very healthy place. I always feel well there and I once had a house at Hove - Queen's Gardens - now the Princes Hotel. You ought to get the books this morning, three bundles. Your letter of the 8th came this morning. I hope some day you will get photo'd mounted on the dog. I should like one. You may have to be very firm on breaking him in. His present owners would not have thought of trying that, though a young sailor was leading him when I saw him. All good wishes . . . [PS] You must remember to get a licence 7s6d & his name put on the collar. I enclose £1 note for that.
