"I am very pleased at hearing from you again & am glad that you are getting on well with your work and that the Family are well. I am lad also that you are still getting about and seeing picturesque buildings. I used to go to Mogerhanger when occupied by Friends, but now I think it is a sanatorium for pulmonic cases. it was a house yellow in colour I think of moderate dimensions. Professor Richardson of the London University is a near neighbour and a great Friend. I have his book of smaller mansions but cannot at the moment lay my hands on it. But when found should be glad to lend it you. Could you run over here for the day one day during the Summer. I would pay your travelling expenses. I fear I could not undertake the Babies they would be too young and all feeding is difficult. You would be on the Midland & there is a station at Ampthill, so you might be able to manage a day's outing. I fear there is not much to see here and I am very short handed and the military having most of the house I can only occupy part of it. My Butler would show you everything and I should enjoy a good talk, but I am not a good walker on account of age & rheumatism. You mention buying china, curiously enough I have just sold most of my good stuff to a London Dealer. the worst of china is that when cracked, or broken, it is of little value and I was afraid of bombs, or other accidents. There are many Americans over here now who give good prices. I noted in your last letter that your Uncle had bought clocks at Lilford. I used to stay there with Ld Lilford. It was full of lovely things. The heir (a half Brother) had another place & did not care about Lilford".
