Title
Work Diary. Initially recording little information such as weekly income with a brief description of daily activities such as 'pegged' or 'idle'. After March 1936 (when Leonard was transferred from Swansea Docks to London Brick Company & Forders Ltd at the Stewartby works, Beds) the diary also includes shift times.
Note: Until starting work at Stewartby, Leonard had various jobs in Swansea including casual work and a period of unemployment. After moving to Bedford Leonard stayed at Stewartby until September 1938 when he started work at the balloon development establishment at Cardington.
The diary sometimes contains personal information, some examples include:
- 25th Apr 1934: Dad buried
- 1st May 1934: Had blood transfusion.
- 21st Oct 1934: Joan finishes at Allen's.
- 12th Feb 1935: Started on G.W.R with R. Richards painting.
- 9th Mar 1936: Applied for transfer to Bedford from Swansea docks.
- 17th Mar 1936: Started work L.B.C. & Forder Stewartby works.
- 9th Apr 1936: Gwyn, Joan & Marian come to Bedford.
- 15th Apr 1936: Joan started at the Granada Cinema (kitchen).
- 3rd Jun 1936: Moved to Bromham Road.
- 2nd Jul 1936: Moved to Little Thickthorn, Houghton Conquest.
- 31st Oct 1936: Moved to 27a Hurst Grove, Bedford.
- 19th Dec 1936: Moved to 19 Deacon Avenue, Kempston.
- 5th Apr 1937: Marian starts school.
- 4th Nov 1937: Moved into 51 Deacon Avenue, Kempston.
- 12th Sep 1939: Paid off from Stewartby and given one weeks wages at £7/-/1.
- 14th Sep 1939: Started at Cardington Air works Balloon Development Establishment.
