    "The annexed Promissory note dated January 28th 1881 by John Green to Messrs Brooks & Bird for 2,000 is given under the following circumstances - Mr.Green is Trustee under the will of John Thomas Brooks - George Brooks was entitled to a Legacy thereunder of 5,000 - Major Brooks advanced this money and Mr.Green has to account to Major Brooks for this amount - this has been done except as to 1,900 to be provided out of Real Estate - Major Brooks changed his interest in the Flitwick Estate to Brooks & Bird as Trustees of Settlement with 9,000 - this has been accounted for except as to 1,900. The Midland Railway Company owe Mr.Green 1,900 the Purchase money of their Land part of the Trust Estate, but the Purchase has not been completed in consequence of the charge of 9,000 by Major Brooks being unsettled. To enable Mr.Green to receive the Railway money and to produce the Deed of Release the above Promissory note has been given. Now I John Thomas Green Solicitor on behalf of Mr.Green hereby acknowledge that I have received the Deed of Release in exchange for the above mentioned Promissory Note and I undertake to return the Deed of release whenever required to do so upon the Promissory note being returned"
