- Scope and Content- marriage settlement of John Thomas and Mary Brooks of 17-18 Apr 1816 recited in HN2/B3/24/30; - three sons and one daughter issue of the marriage; - three sons all living but daughter dead unmarried; - Mary Brooks still living; - eldest son, John Hatfield Brooks married in Dec 1850 Sophia Margaret Myburgh Cloete giving a bond to the marriage trustees for payment of 9,000 and charging his interest in Flitwick Manor Estate with payment [see HN2/B3/19/1]; - marriage trustees, Robert Wilberforce Bird and George Henry Brooks should hold the 9,000 with a further sum of 1,000 belonging to the wife upon trust to invest and pay income to John Thomas Brooks, remainder to his wife, the trust premises to be held in trust for the successive children of the marriage in whatever John Hatfield Brooks and his wife should appoint; - the Flitwick Estate is worth only about 18,000; - death of John Thomas Brooks on 18 [sic] Dec 1858 devising in his will all his real estate to use of John Green and Samuel Swaffield for term of 1,000 years in trust to raise money for payment of debts, legacies etc., remainder to use of John Hatfield Brooks, remainder to his wife, remainder to their chidren; will allowed trustees, with permission of tenant for life, to dispose of real estate; - residue of John Thomas Brooks' personal estate bequeathed to widow for her life and, after her death 5,000 each to George Henry and Thomas William Dell Brooks; - if John Hatfield Brooks did not within a year of the testator's widow's death convey his share of the real estate to the trustees of his father's will to be held upon the same trusts his share would become void; - 5,000 legacies to George Henry and Thomas William Dell Brooks were on condition that they convey their shares to the trustees to be held according to the provisions of the will; - indenture of 9 Mar 1860 [HN2/B3/24/30] conveyed the respective sons' shares to the trustees
