Scope and Content
The Bedfordshire firms affected have been subject indexed, but many of the accounts were with London wholesalers, who have not been so treated.
System of arrangement
These were found in complete disorder; they have been sorted out into some order under debtors, arranged alphabetically. The bills relating to each man have then been dealt with according to the number which have survived. If few, the number of subdivisions has been made small, if many, bills relating to various groups of trades have then been separated from each other and the papers placed in chronological order. Some overlapping has been inevitable, and to a certain extent this has been indicated in the titles given to the various files of bills. No attempt has been made to seperate those bills in which the debtor was the purchaser from those in which he was the vendor.
