  • Scope and Content
In 1824 the Bankruptcy Commissioners, who up to then had sat in London, were empowered to go on circuit (by Act of 5 Geo IV c 61, amended 7 Geo IV c 57). The local Clerk of the Peace could act as clerk to the Commissioners and duplicates of schedules of debts and debtors' books were to be deposited with him. District Bankruptcy Courts were set up after 1842 to deal with cases outside London. Bankruptcy case records after this may be held by County Record Offices.
