  • Title
Order of the Poor Law Commissioners for England and Wales (1st Sept 1835), with a note to the effect that 'this copy is made from a typewritten copy supplied by R.O. Watson, Clerk to the Guardians of the Poor ... the effect of this order is to transfer all Poor Law functions from the Guardians of the Poor within the Town of Bedford, who accordingly do not come within the definition of the term 'Board of Guardians' in the Interpretation Act 1889. It follows from this that the provision of the Local Government Act 1894 and the Poor Law Act 1927 and the Local Government Act 1929 do not apply to this body and that their property is vested in them and is not transferred to the County Council' (no date)
