"It was a grand dinner we had 4 turkeys, roast beef, plum pudding and prunes. "I had a jolly good feed although some of the men complained about not getting enough"; - notes there was a football match between a team from the two sections and a team from the engineers; - comments that after dinner several of them went to the village for a drink; - notes the next day was much the same but they were given a half day to do washing and mending of clothes; - thinks he has caught a fresh cold and as such has been excused all duties; - comments that there was supposed to be a concert but the party couldn't come as the road was being shelled; - notes they are sleeping in proper beds which are more comfortable; - asks what has Dottie (Dorothy Brittain) got to talk about?; - is pleased that she and the children liked their cards; - notes he is sorry to hear her parents are poorly and asks if she spent Christmas with them?; - is sorry to hear that George's operation may not have been successful and that he may lose his sight; - asks whether Min & Reg have been up home over Christmas; - asks to be remembered to Mr Horsler;
