"What did he say when he found that it was next door that was the cause of it but they will always be a trouble" and that "Its a pity Bob Mann didn't have a go at it, he would have made a nice mess of things"; - notes that he is sorry to hear about Charlie Groom and that it must have been a shock for his poor wife; Monday Night - writer has just received a parcel from his wife and is pleased with it but ask not to be sent another one as "we are getting a jolly good living"; - asks if she can knit him some gloves and socks - wonders what Archie and Ede Ayler think about things now and asks what regiment has he joined?; - notes that Mother has told him that George [Dillingham, his brother] has passed for Garrison Duty Abroad; - asks does Mrs Fowler still pull as long a face as ever?; - notes he hasn't got anything to complain about and is getting on first class, "We are getting a much better living & have had another blanket issued out to us"'; - comments that they are all billeted together in one long hut, which have a couple of fires in them and are quite comfortable; - notes the weather has been very miserable this last week with nothing but rain and cold winds day after day making the camp like a quagmire;
