From: Samuel Whitbread I at Bedford, by another hand To: probably Thomas Strong When you have procured the writ I beg you will write a letter to the Sheriff James Metcalfe Esq., Roxton House near Biggleswade and inform him it was by my desire that you procured and sent it him. I shall be obliged to him to send it to the Mayor of Bedford Saturday Evening but you will write to him those particulars and inform him how long the Mayor can keep it i.e. the Writ. I have met with much success as I could wish, more than ever and I think your Friend should lose no time. I shall have done my Busines Tomorrow Morning and the Voters expect your Neighbour. My Friend, Mr.Hensman is made Distributor of Stamps here and we want to know if it invalidates his Vote or anything further with respect to interfering in Elections. Please to send for Mr.Green and he will procure a proper Messenger to change his Horse, to carry the letter to Mr.Metcalfe near Biggleswade as on the other side. You will inform Mr.Metcalfe that he may send his Under Sheriff to make out the Precept and as the Messenger will go through Baldock you might write a Line to Mr.Hindley to prepare the Precept if he chuses it to send on Saturday to Mr.Metcalfe. Note in Whitbread's own hand: to Mr.Metcalf from me Postal Strike: 11 Ju [Note: Hindley is Isaac Hindley of Baldock, Master in Chancery]
