  • Title
Letter from Frederick Glass to Mr Bassett. Mr Stephens wrote purely as a friend as writer's sight had been weakened by his illness. Explains circumstances - he is obtaining money from sister in India to pay off all liabilities in Ireland incurred by his and Mary's illness. £100 due to Cox and Co was obtained on Mary's behalf to repay her brother Frank. She would repay it in 2 half yearly repayments as her dividends fell due. To obtain this loan writer gave his insurance policy to Cox and Co. When he spoke to John about the sum, it was to say if it was paid for her, it would give her her dividends to live on when it was decided she should go to her sister or aunt. Will have to repay his own sister so cannot help Mary except to tell Cox and Co to take insurance policy - which would ultimately be a loss to Mary herself as he is likely to pre-decease her. He hopes "... that on some future day, she having acquired control over herself & all our monetary affairs entirely settled, that we may again be happy together"
