Title
Postcard of women workers at Vauxhall, Luton, on strike for higher pay. At the time they were paid £1 p.w. They succeeded in getting 10s general rise and 1s fine. The instigator and leader was Mrs Dorothy Clarke (later County Councillor and J.P.) who come to Luton in 1914 to take up a job in domestic service, this didn't appeal, she couldn't do straw plait so took a job at Vauxhall's. She joined a Trade Union meeting at the Plait Hall and was chairman of the Women's branch.
