    Letter written from the area of Mouquet Farm, Thiepval, on the old Somme battlefield, whilst with 7th Bedfords, with text as follows: Feb 6 1917 My Dearest little Nora I am writing a few lines to you as I promised. Will you tell Mother I received your parcel today at tea time. I was so pleased with it and I also got the outside letter as well, so they was not so long coming. Thank you so much for the sweets, it was so kind of you to think of Father. I had a letter from Maud, she is sending off me yesterday [?]. Will you thank dearest Mother for the things she sent and the pipe, it is A.1. We are still having the same cold sharp weather. I am going on duty at 8 o'clock tonight so I shall be well provided with sweets. I was pleased to hear you continued was all well, I hope you will be a good little girl and see after Gordon and Brenda for Mother until I come back home again. I hope that will not be long, I think things look brighter than they did. You will all soon be able to go down to the garden together when the weather gets a little warmer.Well Dearest, I think I have told you all this time again, thanking you for the parcel, I will conclude with fondest love to you all.
