Selected material from the practice of brothers-in-law Bernard West and Alexander Chrystal (1927-2004). Friends from childhood the two started their practice in about 1961, Mr Chrystal having previously worked for Deacon & Laing. The practice worked on commissions of all types, conservation/restoration making about 30% of their business over thirty years although during certain periods it was a much higher proportion of work than new builds. The material deposited with Bedfordshire & Luton Archives Service relates only to their projects in Bedfordshire although the practice also worked on commissions in Wales, London and Scotland. The business was wound up on the retirement of the partners. Mr West was a well-known artist and illustrator and the collection contains many perspective sketches by him. Mr Chrystal died in the summer of 2004 and Mr West died in early 2006.
