Admin/biog history
Papers relating to the Ransom family of Hitchin and later of Kempston Mill. They deal with various activities of Edwin (1842-1927) and include references to property in Hitchin and Kempston, investments and the trusteeship of will of Eunice Cain. Many of the papers refer to or were written by Mary Radley who on the 1851 census has the occupation of governess [for Edwin] and on the 1861 census was described as an accountant. Edwin took over the businesses of his father in 1862. He later became proprietor of the Kempston Gas Works, mayor of Bedford, 1885 and owner of 'The Bedfordshire Times' for some years. He married Amy Wright in 1871. He resigned from the Luton and Leighton Monthly meeting of the Society of Friends in 1872 (FR2/1/1/8 p405).
