    15a) Charles Brown on 25th October 1922 was convicted before this court that on 7th September 1922 at Sandy on or about 12:20am did unlawfully supply to George Greaves in certain licensed premises called the "Red Lion Hotel" there situate certain intoxicating liquor to be consumed ether on or off the premises, otherwise thanduring the hours permitted in the Licensing Act 1921 contrary to the statute. it is adjudged that the defendant do for his said offence forfeit & pay to the Clerk of this Court the sum of £5.00. it is ordered that the sum be paid forthwith & if default is made , it is ordered that the sum due, be levied by distress & sale of the defendants goods. In default of sufficient distress the defendant be imprisoned for 1 month unless the charges be paid sooner. Vincent The defendant is appealing in this matter & notices are being served tomorrow. As a matter of courtesy I send you one & I shoud be obliged it you will kindly tell me what are the Quarter Sessions Rules as to entering the Appeal & whether I need to do anything but send you as Clerk of the Peace a copy of the enclosed Notice with a letter asking you to enter the Appeal. I Chales Albert Brown of "The Red Lion" Sandy, an innkeeper do give you & ach of you notice that it is my intention a the next General Quarter Sessions of the Peace held in bedfrd on or about 10th January 1923 to appeal against a conviction of me by Henry Martin Lindsell Esq. Frederick William Western Esq. & Mrs Kate Eaton, 3 of His Majesty's Justices of the Peace, sitting at the Court of Summary Jurisdiction, Biggleswade, for having on 7th September 1922 at Sandy at about 12:30 am unlawfully supplied to George Greaves with intoxicating liquor out of permitted licensing hours. I was adjudged to pay a fine of £5.00. The liquor supplied to George Greaves was supplied for consumption on the licensed premises of "The Red Lion" as a private friend of me the holder of the license bona fide entertained bt me at my own expense & that I am not guiltyof the said offence all of which you & each of you are bound & are hereby desired to take notice. dated 30th Ocyober 1922 signed Charles Albert Brown. 15e) Letter from Bedfordshire Constabulary Biggleswade, to The Chief Constable, Shire Hall Bedford dated 31st October 1922 Sir, I respectfully beg to submit Notice of Appeal which I have this day received from a representative of Mr Spencer of St Neots. George Greaves I beg to report with reference to the above named, that I have caused enquires to be made, & find that Greaves left Caldicote on Thursday 26th October 1922 for the port of Embarkation, & on Friday 27th October 1922, at 4 pm set sail for South Africa in S.S. "Briton". my informant staes that Greaves expects to arrive on 11th November 1922 & it is his intention to stayat a hotel at the Port of Landing but he does not yet know where his permanent address will be.
