Be it remembered on 3rd October 1921, Edward Hughes of Sharpenhoe, Bertie William Butcher of Milton Ernest, William Arthur Keens of Barton personally came before me, one of His Majesty's Justices of the Peace acknowledged themselves to owe our Sovereign Lord the King the sum of £10 each of good & lawful Money of Great Britain, to be made & levied of their Goods & Chatels, Lands & Tenements if they the said bound persons shall fail in the condition indorsed. Taken & acknowledged the day & year first mentioned at the Court House, Luton before me Edwin Oakley one of His Majesty's Justice of the Peace

The Condition of the written Recognizance is such, That whereas the said Jennie Smith was this day charged before the said Justice of the Peace, for that she Jennie Smith did on 29th September 1921 at Sharpenhoe unlawfully & feloniously did steal take & carry away a quantity of clothes, linen jewellery, a push car & other articles of the value of £15 the proerty of Edward Hughes, If therefore they the said Edward Hughes, Bertie william Butcher & arthur Keens shall appear at the next court of General Quarter session of Peace to be holden at the Shire Hall, Bedford., & there give Evidence as is to them known upon a Bill of Indictment against the said Jennie Smith for the offence as also to the Jurors who pass upon the trial of the said Jennie Smith if the bill shal be found a true bill, then the said Recognizance to be void, as such of the above bound persons as shall perform the said condition, or else to stand in the full force & virtue.
