  • Admin/biog history
Approximately 20 acres of land acquired as part of the Ivel Valley Countryside Project as a Pocket Park in 1997. The land purchase was completed in the name of Sandy Town Council, which met the full purchase costs with the assistance of grants from various bodies. The Ivel Valley Countryside Project (Bedfordshire County Council) was responsible for the legal and surveyors fees. One grant was from MAFF as part of the Countryside Stewardship Scheme. Upon completion of the transaction the Town Council entered into a management agreement with the Beds and Herts Wildlife Trust. Restoration and remedial works were completed in 1999 resulting in the final payment from the Heritage Lottery fund. In 2003 the land was declared a Nature Reserve.
