    Local government interest in Public Health was at first a function of the Urban and Rural Sanitary Authorities, later the Urban and Rural District Councils.
  • Scope and Content
    May contain separate reports from the sanitary inspector, often contain the tables of deaths and population as printed forms separate to the main report.
  • Archival history
    Reports submitted annually or quarterly to Bedfordshire County Council and used by the County Medical Officer in compiling the County Report. The County Council's first full-time County Medical Officer was appointed by the General Purposes Committee in 1929, and reports for 1902-1972 can be found in CCD and in the General Purposes Committee Papers CC/GPP. HePu1 also contains reports. The collections of the various District and Borough Councils are also likely to contain their own Medical Officer Reports, often as appendices to main council minutes, although exact coverage varies.
