- Scope and ContentPleased to hear news of Harry. His has been a wonderful recovery. News of John's engagement [to Cara Akers-Douglas]. Had a talk with Corporal Monk last Sunday. He was not there when John was injured, but saw him afterwards. Did not have much to add to what Gertrude already knows. Gives Monk's address in Chatham should she wish to speak to him. Henry has been at Oxford the last week trying for a scholarship at Brasenose College. He has also applied for a commission.
