(i) Ernest Bailey stands charged before one of His Majesty's Justices of the Peace for the Borough of Luton on 5th March 1921 that he on 16th February 1921 feloniously did break & enter the dwelling house of Christopher Frederick Webb of 57 Ashburnham Road Luton & steal 5 clocks, a lady's watch, a gents silver watch, a pair of binoculars, a jewel case & a case of mathematical tools together of the value of £50.00 the property of Christopher Frederick Webb contrary to the form of the statute in such a case made & provided.
After the charge being read & the Witnessess for the prosecution being severally examined in his presence, Ernest Bailey was asked if he wished to say anything in answer to the charge. Whereupon Ernest Bailey said as follows : I am guilty & will tell the truth at my trial.
Taken before me at the Court House Luton & after obeying the directions of the 18th Section of the Act Eleventh & Twelfth Victoria, chapter 42, I the said Justice of the Peace demand & require of the said Ernest Bailey whether he desired to call any Witness, he neither called or desired to call any persons as witnessess.
