- Scope and ContentOn Wednesday managed to find an excuse to go to Zurich. Had lunch and went to the Swiss National Museum, then John left Kathlen and Aunt Florrie and went to visit a friend, Madamoislle Bodmer. Not speaking German, and being in a German speaking town, got lost, but eventually got to his destination to be told that the family were at the Swiss National Museum, where he had left Kathleen and Aunt Florrie! Eventually caught up with his friends. Managed time for tea before getting the train back, after arranging an expedition for yesterday. On Thursday the ladies were feeling lazy so writer set out alone and caught the boat from Lucerne to Stansstat with the idea of assaulting Mount Pilatus. Describes the walk. Yesterday Mrs & Miss Bodmer and their Dutch friend arrived on the train from Zurich at 10.30. Caught the steamer to Stansstat and from there took a walk up the Burgenstock. Beautiful walk and then took the lift to the top. Came down by a different route, had tea in Lucerne and saw friends off on the train back to Zurich. Left Lucerne today. Walked 18 miles up the St Gotthard pass. Goeschenen is the station at the northern end of the St Gotthard tunnel. Will catch the train tomorrow to Lugano, and so across the Italian frontier; hope to arrive in Cadenabbia in the evening. Will stay there for most of next week. and return to London arriving Sunday of Monday.
