'E Mess' got started last night in Mrs Morrell's farm house, a sequel to a meeting of mess members round the heavy roller on the cricket ground on Monday evening. Had dinner (cold) with lobster patty to start, pork pie and salad for middle and a savoury for third course. Drank the health of the King with some inferior port. It was Biggs' birthday. He is from the Ordnance Corps, dealing with guns and vehicles. He seems to have Hague's job, as Hague is posted missing. Was asked to ascend to where the new G.S.Q. Major Springhall and his wife were dining upstairs, so got acquainted with them. Gives description. Comments about letting out the rectory and getting a house agent to deal with matters. Hopes Michael is recovering [from measles?]
