Walter Frederick Graves (1903-1973) had been a photographer with Paramount Pictures and then a war photographer. On the 1939 Register he is listed as a cinematographer (newsreel). He married Edith MacDonald and had three children: Christine, Brian and Graham. In about 1957 Walter came to Bedford and set up as a commercial photographer at 23 St John's Street. The company moved to 1 Lime Street in about 1964 and then to 48 St Loyes in 1966/67. Walter's son, Brian John Graves (1937-2024) also became a photographer eventually taking over the business from Walter, but continuing to use Walter F. Graves as the name of the business until at least 1976. Brian sold up in Bedford and continued as a photographer in Spain, Folkestone and France. Before coming to Bedford Brian had been a chorister at Westminster Abbey. He married twice and had four daughters.
