A taxi to Naples and then a train to Pompeii on 3 March. detailed description of Pompeii. Sunday 4 March went by tram to the museum [Capodimonte Museum in Naples?], one of the finest in the world. The writer particularly liked some old tapestires (1531) of the battle of Pavia. Also liked the mosaics in Pompeii, but not much enthusiasm for sculpture. On Monday writer and mother took the train to Vesuvius. it took about an hour and a half to get to the top. Describes view inside the crater. Efforts to go to the opera were not successful - arrived on the night to find the performance cancelled as the leading lady was ill. On Wednesday March 7 took the boat to Capri, touching at many little places on the way. It trip lasted over three hours and it was dark when they landed. Carriage ride took them to the Hotel Eden Paradiso at Anacapri, a quiet little place with about 10 other guests. Pleasant to be quiet after the bustle of Rome and Naples. Take the night train from Milan for Ostend on March 20. Send from Anglo American Hotel, Florence.
