- Scope and ContentWill return on Monday, unless there is a perticular reason to return on Saturday. Went to Bedford Street Yesterday to visit Henry's mother [Ann] and Maude. Ann had gt a chill. She seems t like talking over past times. Carmen [Longuet Higgins] seems to have told Maude that she would like to bring her girls to Bedfordshire and live at Holmwood [Turvey], which could be enlarged and take in more land. Might need to consider the length of lease for Holmwood. Suggests Henry write to Horace to ascertain for how long he is willing to let out the house. Details of previous day's events: Went to Falkner Street with Maude. 'If only your sisters could make their embroidery and lace classes a success they could do well, but of course their back debts are a fearful burden....' Suggests Henry might offer to pay the hosptal bill for 'Tre' [assumed to be Teresa Mary Longuet Higgins, sister of Henry]; being a month at the Shaw Street hospital at a fee of £3 per week. Went to Mrs Harris for lunch; her husband and youngest son Gilbert were there. The boy leaves Wellington [school?] this summer. Later in the day saw Lady Hampson. The town made a presentation to Sir Robert of his portrait in full court dress; it is very good and hangs on their dining room wall. The 'At Home' at Dr Herdman's was enjoyable. Gives names ofother attendees.
