Notes on the Debenham family of Hitchin, Luton and Bedford. Samuel J Debenham (c.1807-1887) started his photographic business in Bedford in 1863, moving to Luton in the mid 1860s. He sold his business to Frederick Thurston. Samuel's three sons William Elliott, Edwin and Arthur F. were also prominent photographers in south east England
