- Scope and ContentAt last settled at Vine Cottage. Beginning to get straight, but still need to hang pictures and sort cupboards. There is still sorting out to be done at Gunterstone Road; writer intends to do this with Hugh and Maude as soon as hugh returns from France. Requests confirmation of date of Hugh's return. Cara has offered to put Hugh up while the moving is in progress, or there is Kathleen's room available. The house is now in the hands of three agents who want permission to send people to view. The difficulty is that it still contains a lot of possessions and there is no one in residence. Also, Garrett holds them liable for the house until Christmas unless he gets a tenant or purchaser sooner. The Manor Room will not be ready to receive carpets or furniture before the end of August, so it will be 1 September at the earliest before the last bits of furniture can be removed from Gunterstone Road. Robert Wooding is doing the decoration of the Manor Room. He is very busy with people 'doing up' after the war. Hugh's father has suffered a sharp asthma attack. Dr Nash's medicine has already had a beneficial effect. Still without a permanant servant.
