  • Scope and Content
Acknowledges kind letter. Cannot give a direct answer to the offer of the living of Turvey due to 'recent engagement at the Lock Hospital accompanied with some peculiar circumstances which seem to mark that as a station assigned by Providence for the exercise of my ministry on the one hand: & some family negotiations in which church preferment is concerned on the other'. If decides it his duty to accept the offer 'I should also think myself in conscience bound to go to Turvey to make a few important enquiries previous to a conscientious acceptance'. Hopes he doesn't consider delay inconvenient asks to be remembered in his prayers and to Maitland's parents and Mrs E Maitland.
