  • Scope and Content
'God knows how much longer German East [Africa] will hold out and therefore my job has no visible termination.' Has been at Potchefstroom over a year and does not look back with any satisfaction, though has had a happy time. Commiserates with Edith regarding the death if Vivian Birchall [died of wounds received at Pozieres]. Writer's aunt and her husband have just lost their only boy [Godfrey Wiglesworth, 2nd Lieutenant Royal Flying Corps]. Another cousin has been wounded again [Henry Johnson]. Writer had a go on the range a while ago; better than going out with the SAMR batteries that are stationed here on their live shell practice. 'The push seems to be pushing along.' Pleased that Edith liked the retreat. Mina[?] is back in Grahamstown, but writer expects to see hm at the diocesan synod. Glad that O Edward [assumed to be Oswald Edward Selwyn Bazeley] is apparently safe so far. Thanks Edith for sending 'More Fragments From France', which has been chuckled over by most of te fellows. Comment about confirmation candidates. Kitchener memorial service. Pleased that Vivian Birchall got the DSO. Sisiter Kathleen is doing war work at Shrewsbury.
