    'I am getting over the "disinclined" feeling which had me in its grip most of February.' Had 5 days leave early March and spent them in Johannesburg at the Rectory. Continued recovery from 2 cracked ribs acquired in first bout of boxing for 17 years. Went to a show at the Emperic which included conjuring. Gives timetable for Sunday services. Prospect of a polo match with officers of the Artillery. John [brother] expects to be married in April [He married Cara Mary Akers-Douglas in May 1916] 'O E seems to have been having thrilling times. I'm so thankful he's escaped the luck of most of his comrades.' Complains about postal service, having just received 2 letters dated January which had been return to England marked 'Unknown.' Comments about clearing vegetation from outside room. Has had a letter from Mina[?]. Pleased his arm is nearly better. 'My chances of going to the front are now kybosched.' Had a go with a machine gun on the range. Dog has died.
