Scope and Content
At front note that Mr Samuel Bailey of Southill formerly registrar of the Commissary of the archdeaconry of Bedford died on the 18 Oct 1880 and William Johnson Evans of Ely was appointed as registrar. No register of marriage licenses granted was found among Mr Bailey's papers and this register is of all licenses granted since Mr Bailey's death.
On page 1 records the appointment by John Green Commissary within the archdeaconry of Bedford of Rev. William Hart Smith, Rector of St Peter, Bedford as surrogate within the archdeaconry of Bedford for licences and faculties, 20 January 1882, with declaration of William Hart Smith.
