  • Scope and Content
Mrs Dows is expected 12 May. Last few days have been dull and uneventful. Studies proceed with clockwork regularity. Miss Johnson was taken ill on Friday. Mention of other guests - Mrs Goodwin and two daughters and a Mr Tanner, whom the writer has dubbed 'the bird'. A gramophone arrived for Kenneth a short while ago, together with all the records from Stoneleigh, largely grand opera. Yesterday the Chaplain held a service in the propestant church; the writer read the lessons. Yesterday went to Lucerne to meet Sir Almroth Wright, who is taking 10 days holiday in Italy and was having a look at Kenneth on the way. The writer missed meeting the train by a minute. He turned up on the 1.30 boats, and is to be Kenneth's guest for tonight. [Note: Sir Almroth Edward Wright (10 August 1861 – 30 April 1947) was a British bacteriologist and immunologist. He is notable for developing a system of anti-typhoid fever inoculation and being a strong advocate for preventive medicine.]
