- Scope and ContentPleased all safe in the new house, though mother must be very busy. Thinks the drawing room idea is delightful. The first prose hour Benjy put the writers prose first and went over it at considerable length. He made nice remarks in the private hour. Has not been out in the Pauline punt since last Sunday; Thursday was at the nets and Friday was in the XI playing Worcester [College]. Went in last and made 2 not out. Lost the match. Yesterday went to play cricket at Witney. Had lunch at a nice inn. Writer went in last but one and came out for 0 first ball, but the match was won. On Tuesday went sculling on the backwaters below Iffley lock, and managed to sink, having to haul the boat out of the water and empty it. Had got the lectures he missed and copied them out. Sculling on Monday with Bellamy and Cross. Received a letter from Miss Griffiths whose brother is reader in Egyptology, and went this afternoon according to the invitation. Found her very pleasant and learned. She had not heard of Gertrude since her marriage, so the writer gave her news of the Johnson family. Also saw her brother. The D'Oyly Carte Opera Company has been in Oxford and writer went to see 'HMS Pinafore' and 'Trial By Jury' Mention of a discussion club set up be students - the writer is to be honorary secretary
