  • Scope and Content
Thanks for letters. Asks whether Mother has found a likely hunting horse. Has been rowing as 4th spare man for the togger [rowing boat]. Does not expect to be kept on, but it is employment for the afternoon and includes coaching. Describes rowing in a torpid (a bumping boat race in Oxford); lots of other torpids which meant delays at the locks. Gave a tea party for Oliphant, Adams and Bellamy. Reference to Graham, and oarsman who appears in three photographs in the 'Sporting and Dramatic' ['Illustrated Sporting and Dramatic News' 28 January 1905 - article about Oxford Rowing Club training at Henley as the Isis is frozen] Mentions others students he has seen this term. Went to tea with one of the Rhodes scholars who has spent the vacation seeing London and Bournmouth and was very impressed with Cleopatra's Needle. This afternoon is going to tea with James, a history scholar, a presbyterian. Please to hear Maude [sister, Gertrude Maude] enjoys SPG (Society for the Propagation of the Gospel)
