    The undermentioned Persons severally acknowledge themselves to owe to our Sovereign the King the several sum following namely Joseph Bettle Savage of Cranfield in the County of Bedford, Dealer, as principal the sum of 25 pounds to be levied on his goods lands & tenements if the said princpal fail to the condition stated below. Signed J B Savage taken before me 16th October 1918 Andrew Tanqueray, Justice of the Peace for the County of Bedford. The condition of the above recognisance is such that if the above bunden principal shall at the next Court of General of Quarter Sessions holden in and for the County of Bedford prosecute his appeal from a certain conviction of the Court of Summary Jurisdiction sitting at the County Court Hall in Ampthill in the said County of Bedford bearng the date 10th October 1918 whereby the said principal was convicted for that he on 30th September 1918 in Cranfield did then & thereun lawfully assault & beat Frederick Ricardson of Cranfield, a labourer, contrary to the statute in such case provided & was sentenced to 2 months imprisonment to commence from & after the expiration of another term of imprisonment for 2 calendar months to which the defendant wason the same day sentenced by the same court & that if the principal shall appear at the next Session & prosecute such appeal & abide the judgmnt of the Court thereon & pay such costs as may be awarded thereby the said recognisance shall be void by otherwise shall remain in full force.
