Has got tunic and shoes, but not the trousers. Mention of a dance, and the Rolle's wanting him to go again next week. Wishes he could take Gina, but only men are to be brought along. Comments about bath towels and asks mother to send two. Thinks mother must be bored lying on a sofa all day. Assumes Marigo arrived safely; hope she enjoyed her stay in Colchester. Gina would be as useful to the writer as any new clerk, in fact more so, having had a month's training. Has a mind to take her on officially, albiet temporarily. She would get a salary which would pay for her lodgings. Will consult with Hadow on the matter. It would be convenient, as would then be able to keep the place open for Miss Wade. Comments about the dance last Thursday at the Ralle's, mentions who was there. Got home about 3.15. On Friday writer and sister went to dine and play bridge with a freind who is on leave and lives just outside Colchester. Very nice family. Writer asked them to the Hippodrome last night, where he had a box. A very jolly evening. Next week there will be a great deal of unskilled work to be done - might get some voluntary ladies in to help. Tomorrow Captain Clunes is coming to lunch. He is the Special Recruiting Officer for the A.S.C. M.T. [Army Service Corps Mechanical Transport] and travels all over the place. On Wednesday is going to the club as usual for the dance. Hopes to get Gina some introductions. 'The club dances are fearfully sedate but worth going to - beautiful floor and a military band...' Suit is made and very nice, but wants slight alteration. The overcoat fits very well and looks smart. Is going to have a shooting suit made. Is going to send a box of clothes not needed. Further comments about clothing. Has been spending a lot of time at the dentist - lots to be done. Comments about frozen meat.
