Notes on Robert Atherton (1861-1930) Rector of Bolnhurst and poet. Some extracts from Northamptonshire Record Office, some detail from X725 at Bedfordshire Archives, copy of 'Poet without Honour' by Keith Cooper (published 1970) and details of the location of Atherton's grave in St Chad's, Kirby found by his descendant Frank Rimmer.
Robert Atherton was involved in the dispute over George Croxton Walker, master of the Bedford Union workhouse which led to Walker's resignation (PUBM25). Atherton was eventually deprived of his living after beng accused of impropriety with boys in his bell ringing team. He then moved to Manchester and earned his living selling his poetry.
