Extract from the Quarterly Bulletin of the South African Library Vol 15, No 4 June 1961. Account of James Long Fitzpatrick, writer and actor by Alan F. Hattersley. James was the second son of Nicholas Fitzpatrick a surgeon of Bedford. He emgrated to Cape Town in about 1846 and he edited the Cape Monitor, established 1850. He died by suicide in 1851 at the age of about 28.
