Hard-backed diary. Smith's Scribbling Diary and Daily Register No.9
Entries are intermittent, usual entries include social engagements, family events, games played, horse riding, looking after chickens and garden,lessons and some pencil drawings. The weather is often mentioned.
Gina's early entries are written in very neat italics, in pen and ink but with a number of spelling mistakes. Some unusual entries are:
11th march 'In the afternoon father went out and he sore (sic) our chicken was dead and so I went out and bared (sic) it.' then 'When I bared it Biddy was all the time laughing.' Biddy was the children's nursery nurse.
15th March 'I went out and I met a poor old womanand she asked us for some and so I said if you will wate (sic) here I will go and get you something to eat and some money and so she said God bless you.'
23rd March 'I went out and dug the weeds out of my garden'
4th June 'I came in for my dinner and I had some brains and some rice and I liked it very much.'
No more entries for this year, however, on the pages for 29th October - 2nd November Gina writes an entry dated March 1910 then refers to 1st April on the 4th day of her visit to Mrs Schilizzi. This diary entry describes a very enjoyable visit to a family, where Gina shows a very mischevious side when playing with the 'kids'. She is 17 years old at this time.
