    The Bedfordshire County Regeneration Group was formed wth the aid of the Chamber of Commerce& Industry for the Bedfordshire District to combat job losses in the county. It served as a pressure group to gain financial support for the major population centres of the county in order to increase business activity and deal with derelict industrial land. Their initial efforts were to support the bids of the county for the Single Regeneration Budget which was preesented to the Government Integrated Regional Office in Sept '94. It consisted of Local Authority Chief Executives, Chairmen and Chief Executives of the TEC, Chamber of Commerce and Enterprise Agency, and it was chaired by Eric Fountain (then the High Sheriff of Bedfordshire) and Samuel Whitbread (then the Lord Lieutenant of Bedfordshire).
