    Apologises for not writing for a long time. He had written three to send with Mr Pecock of Oakley but was prevented seeing him before he set off. Had very pleasant weather for the voyage and it was a short journey taken only 30 days and 3500 miles Was a little sea sick for the first eight or ten days but was fine after that. Many were afflicted with small pox and detained at the hospital until well. Ship had nearly 200 on board made up of English, Scottish, Welsh and Irish people. Found it difficult to understand their accents when some of them read the Bible Delightful to see New York and stayed a few days before sailing to Alabama. Found Mr Reads and Mr Ashpole well. Stayed a fortnight in Auburn and describes it as a pleasant place. Been at Spring Port since then at Threshing machine making. Receives good wages and master wants him to stay through the winter. Thinks of moving further up the country. Describes Spring Port as a flourishing little place. Likes America. Farmers generally live on their own land. Feels pain at separating from friends in England.
