  • Title
    Book of extracts from documents concerning the Bedford Level - named after the Duke of Bedford who owned most of the land. The area being below sea level constantly flooded and was drained initially (1634) by a series of straight cuts and in 1650 by more significant drainage works - the Hundred Foot or New Bedford River, the Hermitage Sluice and the Denver sluice. This volume contains extracts from Hundred Rolls, Warrants, Enclosure Acts, Orders of the Privy Council, Special Commissions and Spencer's First Patent.
