    1. Letter from R.L.P. Jowitt of Petersfield, picture of locomotive in a shed in Wantage. 8th April 1946 2. Letter from Kenneth Brown, Chairman of The Railway Club dated 12th April 1946 identifying the locomotive as one named 'Shannon' after the ship which Captain William Peel RN, VC commanded. It worked on the private 'Captain Peel's Railway' from Potton-Sandy from 1857. The line was taken over by the Bedford & Cambridge Railway in 1862 and the locomotive continued to work there and at Crewe before being sold to the Wantage Steam Tram company in 1878. 3. Letter from Mr Jowitt dated 6th May advising that the locomotive has been acquired by the Great Western Railway for permanent preservation
