    Charles MacKechnie Jarvis was born in London in 1907. Educated in Kennington, he started work at the Electrical Apparatus Company in Vauxall becoming their Chief Technical Engineer by the age of 25. He was also a part time lecturer at Battersea Polytechnic. In 1937 Charles joined W H Allen and Co of Bedford as electrical assistant to the Marine Manager. In 1942 he offered himself for service in the army and was offered a commission as Lieutenant in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, but Allen's was unable to release him due to other war commitments. By 1942 he was a Lance Corporal in the 5th Bedfordshire Home Guard specialising in signalling and was promoted to Lieutenant in January 1943. Charles married in 1945 and left Allen's in 1948. He ran his own engineering practice C MacKenchnie Jarvis & Partners in London until his retirement in 1983. Charles MacKechnie Jarvis died in 2009 at the age of 101.
