- Scope and ContentArthur John Freeman on the 21st November 1906 at Ampthill Bedfordshire in incurring a debt or liability to one Ada Louisa Rudkin to the amount of £1:12:0 shillings did unlawfully obtain credit from the said amount from the said Ada Louisa Rudkin under false pretences to wit:- That he the said Arthur John Freeman had taken a house in Station Avenue in the Parish of Flitwick in the said County, and that he the said Arthur John Freeman required a nights lodging or two or three days lodgings till his wife came down to take over the said house, whereas in truth and in fact the said Arthur John Freeman had not taken a house in Station Avenue Flitwick aforesaid and did not require a nights lodging or two or three days lodgings till his wife came down to take the said house as he the said Arthur John Freeman then well knew against the form of the Statute in such case made and provided and against the Peace of our Lord the King his Crown and dignity. Second Count And the Jurors aforesaid upon their oath aforesaid do further present that the said Arthur John Freeman on the 21st November 1906 at Ampthill, Bedfordshire in incurring a debt and liability to one Ada Louisa Rudkin to the amount of £1.12shillings did unlawfully obtain credit for the said amount from the said Ada Louisa Rudkin by means of fraud other than false pretences against the form of the Statute in such case made and provided and against the Peace of our Lord the King is Crown and dignity. Third Count And the Jurors aforesaid upon their oath aforesaid do further present that the said Arthur John Freeman on the 21st November 1906 at Ampthill, Bedfordshire unlawfully knowingly and designedly did falsely pretend to one Sidney Broadway, that the said Arthur John Freeman had taken a house in Flitwick in the said County in Station Avenue there and that he the said Arthur John Freeman intended to take in lodgers and that he should want some groceries for the said house at Flitwick. And that he the said Arthur John Freeman was going to be a Carter at Flitwick aforesaid and was going to take in lodgers and that his orders for groceries would never be less that ten shillings a week by means of which said false pretences that the said Arthur John Freeman of the 28th November 1906 unlawfully did obtain from one Sidney Broadway the servant of one Henry Cooper Hitchcock certain grocery goods of the value of £3.11.7d, the property of the said Henry Cooper Hitchcock with intent to defraud. Whereas in truth and if fact the said Arthur John Freeman had not taken a house in Station Avenue in Flitwick aforesaid and was not going to take in lodgers and did not require groceries to the amount of 10 shillings a week at least for the said house and was not going to be a Carter at Flitwick as he the said Arthur John Freeman will know at the time when he did so falsely pretend as aforesaid against the form of the Statute in such case made and provided and against the Peace of our Lord the King is Crown and dignity. Plea: Not Guilty. Verdict: Guilty. Sentence: 2 months Hard Labour. Fourth Count And the Jurors aforesaid upon their oath aforesaid do further present that the said Arthur John Freeman on the28th November 1906 at Flitwick Bedfordshire in incurring debt and liability to one Henry Cooper Hitchcock to the amount of £3.11.7d did unlawfully obtain credit for the said amount from the said Henry Cooper Hitchcock by means of fraud other than false pretences against the Peace of our Lord the King is Crown and dignity. Fifth Count And the Jurors aforesaid upon their oath aforesaid do further present that on the 14th June 1899 at the General Quarter Sessions of the peace holden at Bedford in and for the Count of Bedford the said Arthur John Freeman was convicted of Felony Written in margin: Admits.
