  • Scope and Content
Letter: Borough of Luton Office of the Town Clerk. The Licensing Act, 1904 Adverting to section 5, subsection 1 and 2, of this Act, I am directed by the Town Council to bring to the notice of the Quarter Sessions of the County the terms of the above subsection with a view of the Quarter Sessions dividing the County in areas in such a way that he Borough of Luton may itself form one, the town thus being a separate district for the purpose of the act. The principal ground upon which this suggestion is made is that the amount raised by the new duties in this Borough will be very considerable as compared with the rural district of the County, and it is therefore considered most important that the sum so raised should be applied to the reduction of licenses in the Borough of Luton only, and not merged in the general duties for the whole county. Trusting that this important matter will meet with the favourable consideration of the Quarter Sessions, and that the suggestions will be compiled with, I am, Dear Sir, Yours faithfully, illegible signature. W.W. Marks Esq., Clerk of the Peace, Shire Hall, Bedford
