Scope and Content
Summary: John Berridge b.1716 was presented to the living of Everton in 1755, he soon became a convert to the new Evangelical Movement and in 1759 preached a sermon which resulted in the Everton Revival. In spite of this, he mantained his Church of England position and was allowed to continue there until his death in 1793. The church authorities were keen to restore 'normality' after this and a number of alterations were carried out to the church including moving the pulpit. Sutton church suffered badly during the incumbency of Rev Dr Free (1808-1830) and was also refurbished and in March 1841 'The Sounding Board' which had previously been at Everton church was presented to Sutton.
