Admin/biog history
By the Act of 1 & 2 William and Mary, c18 s4 Nonconformist Meeting Houses were required to be registered with either the Bishop (or Archdeacon), or the Clerk of the Peace.
By the Places of Worship Act of 1812 (52 Geo III c 155) registration was in future to be made only with the Clerk of the Peace, but in fact this was disregarded, and registration with the Archdeacon continued.
The Act of 1852 (15 & 16 Vict c36) discontinued such registration, which was thereafter the responsibility of the Registrar General.
